What Are the Dos and Don’ts of Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners Licensure Renewal?

The season of license renewal is almost upon us for physicians and physician assistants licensed by the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners (“Board”).   As providers prepare to renew, a few reminders about the “dos and don’ts” of renewing your license.

DO…Renew before licenses expire on June 30, 2025.  Nevada does not have grace period.  If you fail to renew your license on or before June 30th your license will expire.  Practicing medicine, including prescribing any medication, may subject you to disciplinary action.  You will also be required to pay twice the current renewal fee to reinstate your license within two years of the date of expiration.

DON’T…Allow a third party to submit your renewal application unless you have reviewed the entirety of the application to ensure that it is 100% accurate.  The license holder is ultimately responsible for the accuracy of the renewal application, regardless of who completed it, and any omission or misinformation can cause delays in renewal and possible disciplinary action for renewing a license with false or misleading information.

DO…Ensure that any third party, including employers or outside credentialers that may be assisting with submission of a renewal application has ALL information necessary to submit the renewal.  This includes information regarding arrests, privilege actions, malpractice suits, etc.

DON’T…Fail to make all required disclosures on the renewal application, even if certain information may have been disclosed prior to the time of renewal.  For instance, if you had discipline taken against a license issued in another state and this was timely reported to the Board, you still need to disclose on the renewal application for accuracy.

DO…Read each question carefully before answering.  Ensure that the question is being answered accurately and don’t assume you know what information is being asked for without thoroughly reviewing the question.

DON’T…Forget to update mailing and email addresses with the Board.  Not only is a licensee of the Board required to update their mailing address with the Board within 30 days of the change, failure to change a mailing address and/or email address may result in missing critical communications from the Board regarding license renewal.
